Methi Prawns

This is another methi -recipe from my “north indian” cuisine. In this recipe , methi (fenugreek leaves ),  is cooked along with prawns (shrimps) and spices.  Methi leaves are wonder herb known for its ayurvedic medicinal benefits, helps to remove toxins from the body thus keeping the body clean.. It is one of the herbs commonly accepted for its anti-diabetic activity. Nutrition-wise methi is rich in protein, calcium, phosphorus and iron in their natural forms, its mineral and vitamin contents are also very high and is easily absorbed by the body.

Ingredients

  1. Shrimp (prawns) : 250 gm
  2. Chopped methi : 1 ½ cup
  3. Chopped onion  : 2 cups
  4. Tomato (medium sized) : 1
  5. Chopped green chilli : 3
  6. Ginger-garlic paste : 1Tbl sp.
  7. Coconut pieces : 3 Tbl sp.
  8. Chilli powder  : 1 ½ Tbl sp.
  9. Turmeric powder : ¼ T sp.
  10. Oil  : 1 Tbl sp.
  11. Salt for taste

Method

  • In a kadai/pan pour the oil and add the onion along with ginger-garlic paste, coconut pieces and green chilli.
  • Add some salt and fry it until the onion became light brown.
  • Add the chopped tomato and cook it until smashed.
  • Now add the chilli along with the turmeric powder and fry it till the color became brown (make sure to not burn it).
  • Add the chopped methi leaves , salt and fry it for about 2 minutes.
  • Then add the shrimp and mix well and close the lid and cook the shrimp well.
  • Make sure to open the lid in-between and mix it.

Tips:-

  • Typically no need of adding any water but if you see no water oozing out while cooking the shrimp, then add some water while cooking.
