Here is a festival time snack from southern states. M<b>unthiri kothu<\/b> (\u0d2e\u0d41\u0d28\u0d4d\u0d24\u0d3f\u0d30\u0d3f \u0d15\u0d4a\u0d24\u0d4d\u0d24\u0d4d\/\u0bae\u0bc1\u0ba8\u0bcd\u0ba4\u0bbf\u0bb0\u0bbf \u0b95\u0bca\u0ba4\u0bcd\u0ba4\u0bc1) is a unique snack very common in Southern parts of south Indian states of Kerala &amp; Tamil Nadu. Its main ingredients are \u00a0powdered moong daal (\u0d1a\u0d46\u0d31\u0d41\u0d2a\u0d2f\u0d7c ) and jaggery (\u0d36\u0d7c\u0d15\u0d4d\u0d15\u0d30) along with coconut, fried in oil.\u00a0\u00a0The good thing about this snack is that, it can be preserved for weeks (about 4-5 weeks) in normal temperature. \u00a0It goes well with evening tea or even as school snacks for kids.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><b>Ingredients<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Lentil (Moong dal) \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 : 2 cup<\/li>\n<li>Grated coconut\u00a0 : 2 cup<\/li>\n<li>Jaggery (\u0d36\u0d7c\u0d15\u0d4d\u0d15\u0d30) : 1 \u00bd cup<\/li>\n<li>Cardamom\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 : 8<\/li>\n<li>Water\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 : \u00be cup (aprox.)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>For batter :-<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Rice flour.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 1 C<\/li>\n<li>Turmeric powder.\u00a0 \u00a0 Pinch<\/li>\n<li>Water.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 As needed<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>For frying :-<\/p>\n<p>Oil as required for frying.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_831\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-831\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/pepper2salt.com\/munthiri-kothu\/dsc_0976\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-831\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-831\" alt=\"Ingredients\" src=\"http:\/\/pepper2salt.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/DSC_0976.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"253\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pepper2salt.com\/sindhus-kitchen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/DSC_0976.jpg 640w, https:\/\/pepper2salt.com\/sindhus-kitchen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/DSC_0976-300x118.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-831\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ingredients<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><b style=\"font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.6em;\">Method<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Preparing the batter.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mix the rice flour with the turmeric powder and water. Make sure to add the water, a little at a time only, while mixing. Don&#8217;t pour. The consistency should be thick.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.6em;\">Making balls.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dry roast\u00a0the lentil\u00a0along with the cardamom in medium flame, until the lentle gets the golden color. (Don&#8217;t use oil)<\/li>\n<li>Then roast the coconut\u00a0until the color changes to light brown.<\/li>\n<li>Once the roasted ingredients are cool, grind the roasted lentil and coconut separately &#8211; <b>NOT<\/b> too fine powder, only medium as can be seen in the picture.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Keep a\u00a0pan on the stove and put the crushed jaggery along with water\u00a0and make syrup of it.Once entire jaggery dissolved in the syrup, take out and filter (for removing any the dirt from the jiggery) the syrup and keep aside.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pepper2salt.com\/munthiri-kothu\/dsc_0975\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-832\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-832\" alt=\"DSC_0975\" src=\"http:\/\/pepper2salt.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/DSC_0975.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"230\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pepper2salt.com\/sindhus-kitchen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/DSC_0975.jpg 640w, https:\/\/pepper2salt.com\/sindhus-kitchen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/DSC_0975-300x107.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Keep a kadai on the stove and pour the jaggery syrup, once it boiled add the powdered ingredients, mix everything well and switch off the stove.<\/li>\n<li>Wait for the mixture to get cooled. So I kept the balls over night and found coming out pretty good.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Keep the flame in medium throughout the frying.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 For preserving for longer period, keep the fully cooled snack balls in an air tight container.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Its festival time !!!.
