This is another delicacy from the Chettinadu cuisine. The cooking steps are very similar to&nbsp;that we do for Masala Vadai (<a aria-label=\"undefined (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/pepper2salt.com\/parippu-vada\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">parippu vada<\/a>) or Medu Vadai (<a aria-label=\"undefined (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/pepper2salt.com\/uzhunnu-vada\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Uzhunnu Vada<\/a>), but the taste of the snack is different and is well enriched by the presence of coconut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\"><li>Moong dal\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 : \u00bc Cup<\/li><li>Urud dal \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 : \u00bc Cup<\/li><li>Toor dal \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 : \u00bc Cup<\/li><li>Channa dal \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 : \u00bc Cup<\/li><li>Raw rice \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 : \u00bc Cup<\/li><li>Grated coconut : 1 Cup<\/li><li>Dried red chilly : 8<\/li><li>Chopped ginger : 1 \u00bd T -Sp.<\/li><li>Chopped green chilly : 1<\/li><li>Asafetida powder<\/li><li>Curry Leaves <\/li><li>Salt<\/li><li>Oil for frying<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Chettinadu Thavala Vadai\" width=\"750\" height=\"422\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/gsUFT6M9U0U?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Method<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Soak all the dals and raw rice about 3 hours, may soak it all together ( I soaked separately for video purpose).<\/li><li>Keep half of the moong dal separately.<\/li><li>Drain all the water and keep it in a colander for some time.<\/li><li>Grind it to a coarse mixture ( do not add water) and keep it in a bowl. <\/li><li>Then add coconut along with rest of the moong dal, curry leaves, salt, asfoetida, green chilly and &nbsp;ginge;r mix it with hand.<\/li><li>Keep it for about 30 minutes,<\/li><li>Heat oil in a pan and shape the vada as you like (it like we do it for uzhunnu vada or parippu vada)<\/li><li>Gently drop it to the oil (may use a spoon if needed).<\/li><li>Reduce the heat to, medium and fry it until golden brown (flip it in between).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Tips<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"I\"><li>Adjust the quantity of coconut, you may use coconut bits instead of grated coconut .<\/li><li>Do not add water for grinding. <\/li><li>Use may use cilantro too if you like the flavor of it.<\/li><li>Adjust the chilly quantity.<\/li><li>Resting time of the dough is optional.<\/li><\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Thavala Vadai&nbsp;is a festive special fried snack dish prepared with mixed lentils, rice and coconut.
