It is a key ingredient for Kerala meal dishes like <a href=\"http:\/\/pepper2salt.com\/aviyal\/\">Aviyal<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/pepper2salt.com\/varutharacha-sambar\/\">Sambar<\/a> and also for special side dishes like <a href=\"http:\/\/pepper2salt.com\/azhakkai-puttu\/\">Raw Banana Puttu<\/a>. In this recipe I share the step by step procedure to prepare thoran (poriyal) with Vazhakka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\"><li>Green banana &nbsp; : 3<\/li><li>Chopped onion : 1 medium<\/li><li>Salt<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>For Grinding:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Grated coconut : 1 \u00bd Cup ( Adjust)<\/li><li>Garlic &nbsp; : 3 cloves<\/li><li>Cumin seeds &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; : \u00bc T-Sp.<\/li><li>Chilly powder &nbsp;&nbsp; : 1 T-Sp. (Adjust)<\/li><li>Turmeric powder&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; : \u00bc T-Sp.<\/li><li>Curry leaves<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>For seasoning:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\"><li>Mustard seeds&nbsp; : \u00bd T-Sp.<\/li><li>Urdu dal &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; : 1 T-Sp.<\/li><li>Oil &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; : 1 \u00bd T- Sp.<\/li><li>Curry leaves<\/li><li>Dried red chilly&nbsp; : 3<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Method<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Skin out green banana and cut it into medium size pieces; keep it in water for about 20 minutes.<\/li><li>Take this from the water and keep it in a colander to dry the class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds followed by urud dal, fried red chilly and curry leaves.<\/li><li>Then add the chopped onion along with salt and saute it until class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Add the chopped bananas and saut\u00e9 it for about 1 minute.<\/li><li>Then close the lid and cook it for about 2 minutes, mix it in between to avoid bottom sticking .<\/li><li>Then add the coarse ground coconut mixture on top of the banana, keep all the mixture in the center of the pan.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Close it and cook it in a low flame for about 2 minutes.<\/li><li>Open the lid and saut\u00e9 it about 1 minute.<\/li><li>Cooking time vary depends on the quality of processer for chopping<\/li><li>I didn\u2019t use water for the cooking, if you see it\u2019s sticking in the pan may sprinkle some oil or
