This used to be a common accompaniment to rice in my childhood. There is a few variant of this recipe from place to place, but the one I share is the traditional one.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Tamarind\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 : Small lemon size( Adjust)<\/li>\n<li>Chilli powder\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 : 1.5 T- Sp(Adjust)<\/li>\n<li>Coriander powder : 1 Tbl- Sp<\/li>\n<li>Turmeric powder\u00a0 \u00a0: \u00bc T- Sp<\/li>\n<li>Cumin powder\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 : \u00bc T- Sp<\/li>\n<li>Fenugreek powder\u00a0 : A pinch<\/li>\n<li>Pepper powder\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 : \u00bd T- Sp(Adjust)<\/li>\n<li>Crushed garlic\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0: 1.5 Tbl- Sp<\/li>\n<li>Salt for taste<\/li>\n<li>Curry leaves<\/li>\n<li>Water\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 : 7 Cups(Adjust)<\/li>\n<li>Asfoetida powder\u00a0 \u00a0: \u00bc T- Sp(Adjust)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>For seasoning:-<\/em><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Coconut oil\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 : 1.5 Tbl- Sp(Adjust)<\/li>\n<li>Mustard seeds\u00a0 : \u00bd T- Sp<\/li>\n<li>Cumin seeds\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0: A pinch<\/li>\n<li>Fenugreek(uluva) : 4<\/li>\n<li>Chopped pearl onion : 1.5 Tbl- Sp<\/li>\n<li>Dried red chilli\u00a0 : 4<\/li>\n<li>Curry leaves<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Method <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Take the extract from the tamarind (use \u00bc Cup of hot\/normal water, soak the tamarind for about 15 minutes and squeeze the tamarind extract).<\/li>\n<li>In a large vessel, add the ingredients number 2- 11 and the tamarind water , mix it and keep it aside.<\/li>\n<li>Heat oil in a kadai\/pan, crackle the mustard seeds along with cumin seeds and fenugreek (uluva\/ventayam) .<\/li>\n<li>Then add the dried red chillies and chopped pearl onions; fry it until brown.<\/li>\n<li>Finally add the curry leaves and pour the tamarind water , let it boil well.<\/li>\n<li>Then reduce the flame into low and boil it for another 5-7 minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Finally add the asfoetida powder and mix; and switch off the stove.<\/li>\n<li>Close the lid and keep it for 15 minutes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pepper2salt.com\/pizhinja-puli\/p2s_pp\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3947\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3947\" src=\"http:\/\/pepper2salt.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/P2s_pp.jpg\" alt=\"P2s_pp\" width=\"800\" height=\"355\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pepper2salt.com\/sindhus-kitchen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/P2s_pp.jpg 800w, https:\/\/pepper2salt.com\/sindhus-kitchen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/P2s_pp-150x67.jpg 150w, https:\/\/pepper2salt.com\/sindhus-kitchen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/P2s_pp-300x133.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Tips:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a liquid curry, so adjust the water quantity.<\/li>\n<li>More curry leaves will give the curry more taste.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of the simplest side dish recipe to go with rice,\u00a0\u00a0\u0d2a\u0d3f\u0d34\u0d3f\u0d1e\u0d4d\u0d1e\u0d2a\u0d41\u0d33\u0d3f\u00a0(Pizhinja Puli) is a quick make and can be easily put together from common ingredients in a kitchen.
