It&#8217;s another fermented Steamed Rice Cake preparation generally sweeter than Appam. This spongy semi sweat bread is served as a snack and even as a main course dish with curry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n<p><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Idli rice \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 : 2 Cup<\/li>\n<li>Coconut milk : 2 Cup<\/li>\n<li>Sugar \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 : 1 Cup<\/li>\n<li>Grated coconut : 1 Cup<\/li>\n<li>Yeast : \u00bd T- Sp<\/li>\n<li>Milk : 2 Tbl- Sp<\/li>\n<li>Jeera : a pinch<\/li>\n<li>Cardamom : 4<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>For kappi:-<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Ground batter \u00bd Cup<\/li>\n<li>Water \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 1 Cup<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Method<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Wash and soak the rice for about 2.5- 3 hours.<\/li>\n<li>Grind the rice along with grated coconut, sugar, jeera, cardamom, yeast and coconut milk into a smooth batter. Add coconut milk a little at a time.<\/li>\n<li>From the above batter mix, take \u00bd cup of batter and dilute with 1 cup of water in a cooking pan. Cook it in a low flame, stir it continuously to avoid forming lumps. (This step is called Kappi kachal-\u0d15\u0d2a\u0d4d\u0d2a\u0d3f \u0d15\u0d3e\u0d1a\u0d4d\u0d1a\u0d7d \u00a0). It should be thick and smooth texture.<\/li>\n<li>Wait for it to cool completely and then add the same it to the batter and mix it without any lumps.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pepper2salt.com\/vattayappam\/kappikachal1\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3706\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-3706\" src=\"http:\/\/pepper2salt.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Kappikachal1.jpg\" alt=\"Kappikachal1\" width=\"526\" height=\"216\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pepper2salt.com\/sindhus-kitchen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Kappikachal1.jpg 478w, https:\/\/pepper2salt.com\/sindhus-kitchen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Kappikachal1-150x62.jpg 150w, https:\/\/pepper2salt.com\/sindhus-kitchen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Kappikachal1-300x123.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 526px) 100vw, 526px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Keep it for fermentation in a warm place, I kept the batter in my oven (preheated to low temperature &amp; took me about 2.5 hours to ferment \u2013 time varies with temperature). Once it got fermented, can see the batter volume is increased and bubbles formed.<\/li>\n<li>Mix it well, if the batter is too thick, may mix well with 1-2 Tbl- Sp of milk.<\/li>\n<li>Check the sweetness, if you want more sugar, add it and mix well.<\/li>\n<li>Steam enough water in a steamer (I used idli pot) and grease a steal plate\/ oven safe dish and keep it in the steamer.<\/li>\n<li>Once the steam starts coming out, add the batter into the greased plate. Make sure to fill the batter in half of the plate, as it will increase the volume.<\/li>\n<li>Cook it until done( ~ 12 minutes, May check it with a toothpick.
