Thoran preparations \u2013 finely chopped vegetable, saut\u00e9 with grated coconut masala- are very common for Malayalee cuisines for daily meal as well as an unavoidable as a side dish to go in to the <a href=\"https:\/\/pepper2salt.com\/%e0%b4%b8%e0%b4%a6%e0%b5%8d%e0%b4%af%e0%b4%b5%e0%b4%9f%e0%b5%8d%e0%b4%9f%e0%b4%82\/\">Sadya Vattam<\/a> (Feast). <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Beetroot\">Beatroot<\/a> is very common vegetable used for thoran during festival occasion feasts .<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Beetroot \u2013 Chopped : 2 (Big)<\/li>\n<li>Onion &#8211; Medium\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 : 1(medium)<\/li>\n<li>Coconut \u2013 grated : 1.5 Cup (Adjust)<\/li>\n<li>Green chilly : 5 (Adjust)<\/li>\n<li>Jeera : \u00bc T- Sp<\/li>\n<li>Turmeric powder : \u00bd T- Sp<\/li>\n<li>Garlic paste\/crushed : \u00bd T- sp<\/li>\n<li>Salt for taste<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>For Seasoning:-<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Mustard seeds : \u00bd T- Sp<\/li>\n<li>Dried red chilli \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 : 3<\/li>\n<li>Curry leaves<\/li>\n<li>Oil : 1.5 Tbl- Sp (Adjust)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Method<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In a mixer, add the coconut, jeera, turmeric powder and green chilly, and pulse it for a1-2 seconds.<\/li>\n<li>In a wide pan heat the oil and splutter mustard seeds followed with red chilli and curry leaves.<\/li>\n<li>Add the onion along with the garlic, salt ; saut\u00e9 it until onions becomes translucent.<\/li>\n<li>Then add the coconut mixture and fry it for about a minute and add the chopped beetroot, stir it continuously.<\/li>\n<li>Check the salt and more if needed.<\/li>\n<li>Without using the lid, cook the entire mix for about 5 min. don\u2019t overcook the beetroot, it will spoil the texture and taste; some crunchiness should be there.<\/li>\n<li>Once it is done take it out from the stove.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pepper2salt.com\/beetroot-thoran\/brt\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3492\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3492\" src=\"http:\/\/pepper2salt.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/BrT.jpg\" alt=\"BrT\" width=\"497\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pepper2salt.com\/sindhus-kitchen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/BrT.jpg 497w, https:\/\/pepper2salt.com\/sindhus-kitchen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/BrT-150x145.jpg 150w, https:\/\/pepper2salt.com\/sindhus-kitchen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/BrT-300x290.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 497px) 100vw, 497px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Tips:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Do not use the lid for entire cooking.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure to chop the beetroot into small pieces (use food chopper for easy and fine cut).<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t put the lid while cooking; the cooking time is very less (~ 5 minute).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Another thoran (poriyal) recipe from Kerala cuisine.
