The well prepared spicy squid roast is definitely a delicacy. Unlike to my earlier squid recipe <a href=\"http:\/\/pepper2salt.com\/kanava-thoran\/\">Kanava Thoran<\/a>, this preparation is coconut free and is relatively easy. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Kanava\/squid \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0: 1 Lb<\/li>\n<li>Turmeric powder : \u00bc T \u2013 Sp<\/li>\n<li>Salt \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 : \u00bc T- Sp<\/li>\n<li>Ginger \u2013garlic paste : 2 T- Sp<\/li>\n<li>Chilli powder \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 : 2 T- Sp<\/li>\n<li>Turmeric powder : a pinch<\/li>\n<li>Pepper powder \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0: 1 T- Sp<\/li>\n<li>Fennel powder \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 : \u00bc T- Sp<\/li>\n<li>Garam masala \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0: \u00bc T- Sp<\/li>\n<li>Curry leaves<\/li>\n<li>Oil \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 : 2 Tbl- Sp (adjust)<\/li>\n<li>Salt for taste<\/li>\n<li>Chopped Onion \u00a0 : 2 (medium)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Method:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Clean the squid and cut it into pieces.<\/li>\n<li>In a pressure cooker, add the squid along with turmeric powder, \u00bc T- Sp salt and cook it until soft.<\/li>\n<li>After the first whistle, reduce the flame and keep it for ~ 7 minutes, do not add any water while cooking, squid itself oozes some water.<\/li>\n<li>If there is any water just dry it or drain the keep the water for later.<\/li>\n<li>Add the chilli powder, turmeric powder, ginger \u2013garlic paste and salt into the squid and mix it (may check the salt before adding).<\/li>\n<li>Heat a pan, add 1Tbl \u2013 Sp of oil; then add the squid and fry it.<\/li>\n<li>Add a little oil at a time and fry it until brown.<\/li>\n<li>Then add the fennel powder, garam masala and pepper powder.<\/li>\n<li>Finally add the onion and saute it about 2-3 minutes, add curry leaves and switch off the stove.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of the Squid\/ Kanava \/ Koonthal \/ Calamari dishes that\u2019s quite popular in Kerala is squid roast.
