Kichadi (\u0d15\u0d3f\u0d1a\u0d4d\u0d1a\u0d1f\u0d3f) in general is a yogurt based curry, essential for Kerala Sadya. Though we can use vegetables like ladies finger, fried\/dried bitter gourd etc. kichadi with beetroot, is special for festival meals during Onam and Vishu. The <a href=\"http:\/\/pepper2salt.com\/pavakka-kichadi\/\">kichadi recipe with fried bitter<\/a> gourd (Pavakka) is shared in one of my previous posts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p><strong>For Typical 1o Servings (for Sadya)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Beetroot (big) : 2<\/li><li>Chopped green chilli : 3<\/li><li>Coconut : 2 Cups<\/li><li>Jeera&nbsp; : \u00bd T-sp<\/li><li>Mustard seeds&nbsp; : 1 T-sp<\/li><li>Curd : 2 Cup (adjust)<\/li><li>Salt for taste<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><em>For tempering:-<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"8\"><li>Mustard seeds&nbsp; : \u00bd T-sp<\/li><li>Curry leaves&nbsp; : 2 sprigs<\/li><li>Red chilly&nbsp; : 2-3<\/li><li>Oil&nbsp; : 2 T sp<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\u0d35\u0d3e\u0d34\u0d2f\u0d3f\u0d32\u0d2f\u0d3f\u0d7d \u0d35\u0d7c\u0d23\u0d3e\u0d2d\u0d2e\u0d3e\u0d2f\u0d3f \u0d2c\u0d40\u0d31\u0d4d\u0d31\u0d4d\u0d31\u0d42\u0d1f\u0d4d\u0d1f\u0d4d \u0d15\u0d3f\u0d1a\u0d4d\u0d1a\u0d1f\u0d3f- Beetroot Kichadi\" width=\"750\" height=\"422\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/VRuBHo-oUJM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n<p><strong style=\"font-size: inherit;\">Method<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Chop the beetroot into very small pieces.<\/li>\n<li>Grind the coconut along with jeera into a smooth paste.<\/li>\n<li>Crush the mustard seeds.<\/li>\n<li>In a pan add the oil and add the mustard seeds and let it splutter<\/li>\n<li>Now add the red chilli and curry leaves, fry it for couple of seconds; take it out and keep it for seasoning.<\/li>\n<li>In a kadai\/pan add the beetroot along, green chilli, salt and add enough water ( \u00be to 1 cup); close the lid and cook until soft .<\/li>\n<li>Then smash the mix with a wooden spoon (not too mushy).<\/li>\n<li>Now add the coconut paste along with the crushed mustard.<\/li>\n<li>Mix everything together and switch off the stove.<\/li>\n<li>Allow it to cool completely and add the curd and mix it, check the salt and add if if needed more to your taste.<\/li>\n<li>Now add the seasoning and mix everything well.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pepper2salt.com\/beetroot-kichadi\/kitchedi\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2912\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2912\" src=\"http:\/\/pepper2salt.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Kitchedi.jpg\" alt=\"Kitchedi\" width=\"640\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pepper2salt.com\/sindhus-kitchen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Kitchedi.jpg 640w, https:\/\/pepper2salt.com\/sindhus-kitchen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Kitchedi-150x108.jpg 150w, https:\/\/pepper2salt.com\/sindhus-kitchen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Kitchedi-300x216.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Another Sadya (feast) side dish recipe, that goes to the banana leaf.
