It is an authentic preparation from Malayalee cuisines. This fish gravy side dish preparation goes great with rice, typically the Kerala brown rice.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Smelt fish (Netholi\u00a0) : \u00bc kg<\/li>\n<li>Drumstick \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0: 8 pieces<\/li>\n<li>Green chilly\u00a0 : 3<\/li>\n<li>Salt for taste<\/li>\n<li>Coconut oil \u00a0 \u00a0: 2 T- sp<\/li>\n<li>Gambooge (Kudampuli)\u00a0 : 3 piece adjust<\/li>\n<li>Curry leaves : 2 sprigs<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>For grinding:<\/em><\/p>\n<ol start=\"8\">\n<li>Coconut\u00a0 : 2 cups<\/li>\n<li>Shallots \u00a0 : 2<\/li>\n<li>Garlic \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 : 2 pods<\/li>\n<li>Turmeric powder \u00a0 : \u00bd T-sp<\/li>\n<li>Coriander powder : 2 T-sp<\/li>\n<li>Chilli powder \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0: 1 \u00bd Tbl-sp (adjust)<\/li>\n<li>Fenugreek seeds : a pinch<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Method:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Clean the fish thoroughly with salt and rinse well with water.<\/li>\n<li>Split the drumstick and green chilli.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In a Kadai\/ pan add the coconut along with chopped garlic, fenugreek seeds and chopped shallots and fry it for about 5 minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Switch the stove to very low flame and add the chilli powder, turmeric powder and coriander powder and fry everything together for another about 2-3 minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Allow the mix to cool completely and then grind it in to a smooth paste (add enough water while grinding).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In a kadai\/ preferably earthen pot, add the drumstick along with green chilli and add water, just enough tocover the ingredients and cook it well.<\/li>\n<li>Then add the ground paste along with 3 cup of water, kudampuli and salt.<\/li>\n<li>Once it is boiled well, add the cleaned fish and close the lid and cook the fish, (typically will take about 10-12 minutes).<\/li>\n<li>Finally add the coconut oil and curry leaves.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pepper2salt.com\/netholi-curry\/nmc\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2861\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2861\" src=\"http:\/\/pepper2salt.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/NMC.jpg\" alt=\"NMC\" width=\"480\" height=\"597\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pepper2salt.com\/sindhus-kitchen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/NMC.jpg 480w, https:\/\/pepper2salt.com\/sindhus-kitchen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/NMC-121x150.jpg 121w, https:\/\/pepper2salt.com\/sindhus-kitchen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/NMC-241x300.jpg 241w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Tips:-<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be careful while\u00a0roasting the masala ingredients, it will burn very easily (use low heat before adding the masala powders).<\/li>\n<li>The consistency of the gravy may change, 3 cup of water will get a semi thick gravy.
