This palak recipe goes great with rice, chapatti or naan, and can even be served as a single-dish meal. Those who really want to diet for a better health and fit,&#8230;&#8230;.. I strongly recommend this recipe as a single dish meal for breakfast or dinner.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><b style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">Ingredients<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Spinach\u00a0 (big)\u00a0\u00a0 : \u00a02 bunch<\/li>\n<li>Chopped Green chilly\u00a0\u00a0 : 6<\/li>\n<li>Salt for taste<\/li>\n<li>Toor dal\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 : \u00a01 cup<\/li>\n<li>Turmeric powder\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 : A pinch<\/li>\n<li>Garlic cloves\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 : 3<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><i>For grinding<\/i><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Coconut\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 : 1 cup<\/li>\n<li>Jeera\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 : \u00bc T sp.<\/li>\n<li>Turmeric powder\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 : \u00bc T sp.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><i>For Tempering:<\/i><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Oil\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 : 2 \u00bd T sp.<\/li>\n<li>Mustard seeds\u00a0 : \u00bc \u00a0T sp.<\/li>\n<li>Dried red chilly\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 : 3<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Method<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Clean the spinach, wash it thoroughly and then keep it in a colander for draining the water.<\/li>\n<li>Chop the spinach roughly.<\/li>\n<li>Grind the coconut, jeera and turmeric powder in to a smooth paste.<\/li>\n<li>In a pressure cooker, add the washed toor dal along with\u00a0 garlic and a pinch of turmeric powder and 1 \u00bd cup of water , put the lid and cook for about 2-3 whistle or until cooked well.<\/li>\n<li>After the pressure released, open the lid and smash it nicely.<\/li>\n<li>In a kadai\/pan add 1 T-sp of oil and add the spinach along with green chilli and\u00a0 salt ,saut\u00e9 it for about 2 minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Close the lid and cook it for about 5-7 minutes. Make sure to stir it in-between<\/li>\n<li>The leaves itself oozes some water , if there is not enough water add half cup of water and cook it.<\/li>\n<li>Then dilute the cooked dal with one cup of water and add it to the spinach.<\/li>\n<li>Allow it to boil, then add the coconut paste and add enough water ( I used altogether 3 cups of water. Adjust the water to have a medium thick consistency).<\/li>\n<li>Let it boil for about 2-3 minutes and switch off the flame.<\/li>\n<li>In a small kadai\/ pan add the 1.5 Tsp of oil and add the mustards and let it splutter, then add chilli and curry leaves and fry it.<\/li>\n<li>Add this to the spinach curry and mix it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Palak (Spinach) dal (lentil) curry is a great nutrition balanced recipe, blending spinach (vitamins &amp; minerals), lentil (protein and starch) along with health benefit of ingredients like garlic.
