Plantain chips (banana chips or banana wafers ) in various forms can be found in most of the tropical countries. This crispy snack is made either as sweet or salty and can be made of ripe or raw banana slices. The recipe here is the one followed typically in Kerala – the salty version – made from raw unripe bananas (നേന്ത്രക്കാ). This is a common snack of the state and you can buy it any where while you travel across the state.
Ingredients
- Raw Banana (നേന്ത്രക്കാ) : 3 nos
- Turmeric powder. 1 Tsp
- Salt for taste
- Oil for deep frying
Method
- Peel the skin of the banana
- Slice the banana into round thin pieces( with knife or grater).
- In a vessel, pour water (enough to cover the banana slices when added later)
- Add the turmeric &salt and mix gently to cover the slices.
- Put the sliced banana and sock for 15-20 minutes.
- Remove the slices gently from the water and put it in a paper napkin for absorbing the water .
- Keep a kadai on the stove and pour enough oil for frying .
- Fry the banana slices till it will become crisp.
- Move the fried chips out of the kadai
