Vadakoottukari

 

Vadakoottu kari is a special highlights of onam sadya in Tranvancore side of Kerala. It is a semi spicy vegetable curry. In this preparation the urad dal, soaked in water for 1 Hr hours (min) and made into a fine paste, fried and added to a potato and coconut masala curry. This dish gives the famous Kerala Sadya menu a Tamil touch This is an absolutely delicious dish and is quite different from the other sadya recipes.

Ingredients

  1. Chopped onion : 1 Cup
  2. Oil : 1.5 Tbl-Sp
  3. Chopped Ginger : small piece
  4. Splitted Green chilly : 3
  5. Coriander powder : 1/2 T-Sp
  6. Chilly powder : 2 T – Sp
  7. Turmeric powder : 1/4 tsp
  8. Potato pieces : 2 Cup
  9. ThickCoconut milk : 1 cup
  10. Thin coconut milk : 1.5 Cup
  11. Salt
  12. Curry leaves
  13. Garam masala : 1/2 T-Sp

For vada:-

  1. Urud dal : 1/4 Cup
  2. Water for grinding : 3 T-Sp ( adj. )
  3. Salt
  4. Oil for frying Seasoning:-
  5. Oil : 1 Tbl-Sp
  6. Mustard : 1/2 T – Sp
  7. Dried red chilly : 3
  8. Curry leaves
