Sweet filled puffs, a typical bakery snack dish common in Indian Bakeries and sweet shops. The preparation is similar to that of other Indian puffs dishes with Egg/chicken masala. The sweet filling is prepared from grated coconut, sugar and coarse powdered nuts and tutti-frutti. It can be served as a tea time snack which and can be preserved for couple of days without extra cooling.
Ingredients
- Puff pastry sheet : 12
- Grated Coconut : 1 ½ Cup
- Almonds : ¼ Cup
- Raisins : : ¼ Cup
- Cardamom powder : ½ T-sp
- Tutti fruitti : ¼ Cup
- Sugar : ¾ Cup
- Egg white : 1
- Ghee : 1 Tbl-sp
Method
- Thaw the pastry sheet as directed in the pastry sheet packet .
- Coarse powder the almonds.
- In a kadai / pan pour the ghee and add the coconut and fry it for about 3 minutes.
- Then add the raisins, coarse powdered almonds and tutti fruitti, and fry it for about 2 minutes.
- Switch off the stove and add the sugar and cardamom powder and mix it well.
- Allow it to cool completely.
- Preheat the oven according to the pastry sheet instruction.
- Stretch the pastry sheet with a chapatti roller and keep the coconut filling in the center of the sheet and fold it (see picture).
- Keep it in a greased baking tray
- Repeat the same process to all the sheets.
- Finally brush the egg white on top of the puffs.
- Place the tray in the pre-heated oven and bake it until golden color.
Tips:-
- The baking instruction in the puff pastry sheet I used was for 400 F.
- It took about 15-20 minutes for baking in my preparation.
