A classic dish very popular during the festival occasion of thanksgiving in the United States! Green bean casserole is a casserole consisting of green beans, cream of mushroom soup, and french fried onions. I was thinking of this dish for quite a while to add to my international recipe category. Had to go on for couple of iterations to finally get it to my satisfaction.
Ingredients
- Green beans (trip edges) : ½ kg.
- Water
- Salt
For sauce:
- Butter : 1 Tbl-sp
- Sliced onion( medium) : 1
- Cream of mushroom : 1 packet
- Milk : ½ cup
- Pepper powder : 2 Tbl-sp ( adjust to your taste)
- Salt for taste
For baking:
- Bread crumbs : ¼ cup
- Sliced almonds : ¼ cup
- Fried French onion : 1 tin
Method
- In a big vessel add enough water (see the pic ) and boil well.
- Once it is well boiled, add the beans, salt and cook it for exactly 5 minute.
- Drain the water and keep the beans aside.
- Keep a kadai/ pan in the stove, add the butter and wait to melt.
- Add the onion and fry it until the color became brown .
- Then add the cream of mushroom along with milk , stir it and boil it for about 3-4 minutes and switch off the stove.
- Check the salt, (cream of mushroom will have some added salt) , add if needed.
- Add the green beans into the sauce and mix it.
- In a bowl combine the bread crumbs and almonds .
- Preheat the oven 350 degree Fahrenheit .
- Grease an oven safe dish and fill the green beans sauce .
- On top of that add the almonds mixture, followed by the fried onions.
- Bake it about 20-25 minutes. At this point the bubbles starts coming from the sides.
Tips:-
- Here I used low fat cream of mushroom.
- Don’t put salt in the beginning of the sauce preparation, because the cream of mushroom have salt.
- Take tender beans for making this recipe.
