Avalos podi ( (അവലോസ് പൊടി) is a popular evening tea-time snack of the south Indian states especially in our state of Kerala. It is traditionally made with rice flour. It tastes great by mixing a little sugar and banana OR jaggery , also can be transformed into Avalose unda which is another famous snack of Kerala. The recipe here is a variant of the same made of Ragi flour (Finger Millet) with grated coconut, instead of the traditional way of using rice flour. Ragi being a rich source of protein and calcium, it may even served as preservable nutritious main dish meal for children. Its going to be an easy feed for the kids as they are going to love the taste.
Ingredients
- Ragi Flour (Finger Millet Flour) : 1 cup
- Grated coconut : 1 cup
- Cardamom. : 3 nos.
- Ghee : 1 Tsp
Method
- Mix well the ingredients ragi flour, coconut and Cardamom powder, using hand.
- Keep the mix, aside for an hour
- Keep a heavy bottom kadai in the stove and pour the ghee.
- Add the ragi mixture
- Dry roast the mixture, stirring it continuously on a medium/low flame until the color of the mix becomes pale brown ( takes about 30 to 40 minutes).
Avalos podi is ready. It can be stored and can be served as a tea time snack with , sugar/jaggery OR banana
