Roasted Mussels

Mussels are a high protein food source having low fat content makes them potentially healthier than other common protein sources. Cleaned and ready to cook mussels are easy to get in seafood markets, which relives us from most of the painful cleaning process (make sure to get the uncooked one though). Here I share the recipe for roasted mussel, which can be served as a starter or side dish especially to brown rice.

Ingredients 

For marinating:

  1. Mussel              : ½ kg
  2. Ginger garlic paste       : 1 ½ T sp.
  3. Chilli powder    : 1 Tbl. sp
  4. Turmeric powder          : 1/4 Tsp
  5. Lemon juice      : ½  Tbl. sp
  6. Pepper powder : 1 T sp.
  7. Garam masala  : ¼ T sp.
  8. Salt for taste
  9. Oil for frying the mussel

For masala 

  1. Chopped onion (big)    :  1
  2. Chopped green chilly    : 2
  3. Ginger garlic paste       : ½ T sp.
  4. Chilli powder    : 1 T sp.
  5. Pepper powder             : 1 T sp.
  6. Oil        : 1 Tbl. Sp.
  7. Curry leaves      : 2 sprig
  8. Salt for taste
  9. Garam masala  : ¼ T sp.

Method

  • Marinate the mussels with the marinating ingredients (except oil) for about half hour.

  • In a kadai/ pan add enough oil and add the mussels into that , do not over crowd the pan and fry the mussels until the color of frying side became brown.
  • Now flip it to other side and fry it till the color gets brown.

  • Take it out and keep it in a bowl.
  • In the same kadai, add 1 Tbl sp oil ( if you have excess oil, may use that) and add the onions along with Ginger garlic paste and green chilly .
  • Add the salt and sauté it until the color become light brown and then add the chilli and pepper powder .
  • Fry it for about 2-3 minutes or until the raw smell is gone.

  • Now add the fried mussels along with the curry leaves and stir it for about 2 minutes
  • Add the garam masala , stir it properly and switch off the stove.
